A peaceful, creative introduction to Coptic iconography
Slow down, pick up a brush, and spend some quiet time creating something beautiful.
Our Theotokos Icon Painting Kit features a beautiful image of the Theotokos and Christ Child, engraved into a natural wooden panel and ready to be brought to life with paint.
Created for children, teens and adults alike, you don't need to be an artist - or have any experience with iconography - to enjoy it. The engraved lines gently guide you as you paint, making the process wonderfully relaxing and surprisingly satisfying.
Take your time choosing colours, building up the details and watching the icon slowly emerge from the timber. Paint it together as a family, use it as a quiet Sunday afternoon activity, or simply enjoy a little screen-free creative time of your own.
And when you're finished, you'll have a unique piece to keep in your home or prayer corner.
Inside your kit
- Engraved wooden Theotokos & Christ Child icon panel
- Selection of paints, including metallic gold paint for the background
- Two Paint brushes
- Black acrylic marker for finishing details
- Mini wooden artist's palette
- Simple painting guidance and intro to Iconography
Made for more than little hands
While we originally imagined our icon painting kits as a beautiful way to introduce children to Coptic iconography, but whilst product testing, we quickly discovered this kit is just as appealing to adults!
There's something incredibly calming about following the engraved lines, working slowly with colour and creating an icon with your own hands.
It's an activity that can be as simple or as detailed as you want it to be, making it lovely for beginners of any age.
Perfect for those who love creative projects, family time, Sunday School, quiet afternoons, Orthodox gifts, or anyone wanting to explore Coptic iconography in an approachable way.
A note about iconography
This kit is intended as a creative introduction to the beauty and tradition of Coptic iconography rather than formal icon-writing instruction. Whilst the image featured is not a traditional iconographic rendition of the Theotokos, we still encourage both children and adults to approach the process with care and reverence.
Each panel is made from natural timber, so variations in grain, tone and texture are part of its character.
No art experience required. Just a little time, a little paint, and a willingness to create.
